More about MONIQUE PÉAN: Woman Entrepreneur
Since it’s launch in 2006, the MONIQUE PÉAN collection has been inspired by Monique’s life-long love of travel and visits to places like French Polynesia, Haiti, Bali, Mozambique, Malawi, Alaska, Russia, China, and Brazil. Monique is known for her tribal inspired designs and, most notably, her signature fossilized woolly mammoth and walrus ivory.
Working with artisans from the Arctic Circle, Monique obtains fossils which have been preserved up to 150,000 years in ice, land or in the sea. It takes thousands of years of mineralization to produce the blue and brown hues which are the result of the where the fossils were formed.
“I aim to create wearable pieces of art and raise awareness of Native Art and culture,” says Péan. “I have always been inspired by indigenous art and was intrigued by the fact it was rarely translated into fine jewelry. I wanted to create a line influenced by tribal culture using fine jewelry materials.”
Sustainable Rings and Jewelry
Sustainable and eco-friendly, her jewelry combines fair trade stones with recycled and reclaimed gold. Mining new gold releases poisonous mercury into the water system and contributes significantly to the world’s water crisis. By using 18k recycled gold in her fine jewelry, she avoids supporting the dirty mining of precious metals.
MONIQUE PÉAN’s commitment to Charity Water non-profit
Lack of access to clean water is one of the biggest problems facing the world today. Since meeting the founder of charity:water Scott Harrison in 2009, Monique has been collaborating with charity:water to provide clean water to third-world countries. 10% of the proceeds of all Monique Péan purchases made on PlumAlley.co will be donated to charity:water.
