New York Tech Women is an organization that was born in late 2011 by several women who decided to do something about women connecting with one another to build a community of women who work in the tech industry. I met Jennifer Shaw, the force behind the organization, at a WIM Accelerator event where she showed up with a small army of women. I immediately noticed her leadership ability and her infectious energy.
Fast forward to 2013 and Jenn is one of the courageous women who launched a funding campaign on Plum Alley. When we first met Jenn talked passionately about her desire to bring tech skills to under-served women in rural areas. Everyone talks about the need to teach girls to code and there are women who have founded groups to do just that. But, what about the middle-aged women in mid America who need to learn tech skills for employment? Jenn is the one looking out for them. We need to step up and support Jenn’s dream and for the tangible way it will help so many other women.
What can you do? Go to her campaign and contribute $5 or any amount you are able to give. We all have a part to play in this. #InvestinWomen #FundtheFuture
